mission: To cooperatively build a viable, free software competitor to the existing iPhoneOS based on the Linux kernel.
Under Ubuntu:
- you can connect to the itouch over wifi through ssh, just use nautilus to mount it. it helps if you assign a static ip to the itouch in dhcp on your router, so you can bookmark it in nautilus…
- there’s the ipod-convenience package (since hardy). install it with the -R option (without recommends), otherwise it pulls in lots of irrelevant stuff…
- ubuntu guide
- I installed VMWare Workstation and then Windows XP inside it, to have iTunes (necessary to change AppStore account, to upgrade the firmware, the name of the device, etc)
extra software:
- from app store:
- Google Earth
- WorldWiki
- Wikiamo
- Backgrounds
- Sudoku (gratuite)
- Fring
- repositories:
- BigBoss
- Cydia community
- Hack&Dev team
- iSpazio
- ModMyi
- Saurik
- Ste
- ZodTTD
- telesphoreo:
- Cydia
- FiveIconDock
- MobileTerminal
- OpenSSH (the default accounts are root and mobile, both with the password alpine, which you should change IMMEDIATELY!)
- WinterBoard
- bigboss:
- BookReader
- SBSettings (improved BossPrefs)
- GRiS (offline Google Reader)
- NemusSync (offline Google Calendar)
- google code:
- StumblerPlus (scans for Wifi networks)
stop the “scanner and camera wizard” from appearing every time you connect the itouch: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1857

File browsers:
- there’s the iStorage (http://istorageapp.com/) on the apple store, which costs €5
- there’s fileviewer, which is free in Cydia…
If you get “charging is not supported with this accessory” when you connect it to a USB port, it means this USB port is underpowered. I got the message when connecting to the front side usb ports of my tower, while the rear usb ports worked fine…
