Pinnacle PCTV 110i

with 7 comments

I have the Pinnacle PCTV 110i internal (pci) analogue tv tuner card.

The module that the kernel should load for this TV card is saa7134:

modprobe saa7134 card=77

A good site for TV cards under Linux is www.linuxtv.org. It says the 110i is more or less the same as the 50i, and that they are supported in the 2.6.20 kernel.

Here a funny discussion where the card was not autodetected, in the end it was not connected correctly 🙂

As for applications to use with the card, apparently tvtime is the best.

  1. The problem I have is that, while the video is working fine, I am not getting any sound. However, thanx to this thread I found this very helpful guide.

  3. tvtime’s configuration file is under /etc/tvtime/tvtime.xml and ~/.tvtime/tvtime.xml, and you can also run tvtime –configure

    mplayer tv://59 -tv driver=v4l2:device=/dev/video0:chanlist=europe-west:alsa:\
    adevice=hw.1,0:amode=1:audiorate=32000:forceaudio:volume=100:immediatemode=0:norm=PAL

  6. I found this kernel patch (for 2.6.25-rc8):

    commit 9215a6bba73887049ca20d25c13363867d486929
    Author: Patrick Boettcher
    Date: Sat Mar 29 18:37:01 2008 -0300

V4L/DVB (7474): support key repeat with dib0700 ir receiver

This patch enables support for repeating last event when a key is holded
down with dib0700 devices. It works with rc5 and nec remotes.
It also fixes an annoying bug that floods kernel log with “Unknown key”
messages after each keypress. This happened because the driver was not
resetting infrared register after each poll so it kept polling last key
even if nothing was being pressed. Fixing this, (calling rc_setup after
each poll), permits to implement key repeat.

  7. mplayer was telling me:
Failed to open LIRC support. You will not be able to use your remote control.
