Tweak Ubuntu

with 4 comments

I’ve had the time in the last few days to play around with Ubuntu a bit.

  • To speed it up, i did 2 and 3 from here. The rest seemed to risky to me.
  • An excellent guide is available here. I installed Wireshark just for fun, I installed UbuntuTweak, I installed gmountiso.
  • That’s how I discovered this great blog: Ubuntu Geek.
  • I also read this and tried to fix hibernation.

  1. For disk parameters:
    sudo hdparm -I /dev/sda or
    sudo sdparm –long –all /dev/sda
    and for s.m.a.r.t. status:
    sudo smartctl -d ata -a /dev/sda

  2. As for disk speed measuring, sudo hdparm -tT /dev/sda gives me:
    Timing cached reads: 1894 MB in 2.00 seconds = 947.54 MB/sec
    Timing buffered disk reads: 120 MB in 3.00 seconds = 39.94 MB/sec
