repository update propagation

leave a comment »

I realized today that repository update propagation can be a real issue at times. Until today, I was getting my Ubuntu package updates from the server that “select best server” had chosen for me (I imagine the choice is based on ping time). However, after my home computer updated to Firefox 3.0.2 this morning, and I read 2-3 posts in my feeds about it, my update manager insisted there’s nothing new. So I changed to the it.archive.ubuntu.com repository, and ta-da, there was Firefox 3.0.2
