  1. by default Ubuntu includes evince, which is based on poppler
  2. epdfview is also based on poppler
  3. poppler is a branch of xpdf, which is very basic and ugly
  4. the same is true for gv, which is part of ghostscript
  5. adobe reader is closed source, but works when everything else fails (you’ll also need to install acroread-plugins for embedded forms etc)
  6. kde has okular, which replaced kpdf
