manual network configuration from the terminal

You find yourself on a system with broken X and want to manually configure the network? It actually takes 3 steps to do it:

  1. ifconfig address <ipaddress> netmask <netmask>
  2. route add default gw <gateway>
  3. add DNS servers into /etc/resolv.conf
