for about a month now i’ve been using the awesome terminator for splitting terminals… it’s written in python and uses gnome’s terminal (so you don’t lose your settings and .bashrc customizations). if you use the terminal a lot, you’re gonna love this

scenarios where terminator is useful:
a) consult a manpage while constructing a command
b) keep the output of a command (e.g. ls, dmesg, grep, top, etc) in view while trying to solve a problem

note to self: ctrl+shift+O splits horizontally, ctrl+shift+E splits vertically
