in jaunty, bootchart does not create .png images for you, like before. instead, you get .tgz files with logfiles inside. now you have to install pybootchartgui, a “port of the visualization part of bootchart from Java to Python and Cairo”, according to the home page, and run it on one of these .tgz files to view the graph
