The files you need in debian/ are changelog, control, copyright and rules.

Then run debuild -S while at the package’s root directory. What it will do is:

  1. dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -D -us -uc
  2. fakeroot debian/rules clean
  3. dpkg-source -b <package_name>
  4. debian/rules build
  5. fakeroot debian/rules binary
  6. dpkg-genchanges
  7. lintian
  8. debsign

Afterwards, run dh_clean to clean up.

Finally, to upload to your ppa, run dput ppa:<username>/ppa *.changes
