flags in keyboard indicator

leave a comment »

To make Gnome’s keyboard indicator display flags, instead of 3-letter codes, do the following:

  1. download the “small flags – world” collection of country flags (licensed under cc-3.0-by-sa) from http://flags.blogpotate.de/
    wget http://flags.blogpotato.de/zip/large/world.zip
  2. extract them into .icons/flags
    unzip world.zip -d ~/.icons/flags
  3. enable this feature
    gconftool /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/indicator/showFlags -s true -t bool
