Adding a swap partition later

If you chose to have no swap partition during an installation and want to add one later, here’s the way to do it:

  • Use gparted to create the empty space and then create a linux-swap partition
  • Modify /etc/fstab like this:
    /dev/hdb2               swap                    swap    defaults        0 0
  • sudo mount -a
  • sudo swapon -U <the swap partition's uuid>
