I’m making a conscious effort to switch CLI editors from pico/nano to vi(m). Here’s a list of keys:

  • h/j/k/l: ←↓↑→
  • b/w:  move by words
  • (/): move by sentences
  • {/}: move by paragraphs
  • Ctrl+B/F: move by screens
  • 0/$: start/end of current line
  • -/+: first character of previous/next line
  • /: search (forward)
  • n: repeat search
  • i/a: insert/append
  • I/A:insert at beginning of line/append at end of line
  • O/o: new line above/below cursor
  • x/dw/dd: delete character/word/line
  • s/S: substitute character/line
  • u: undo
