Getting started:

• Create an account at launchpad.net, join the BugSquad team and read the CodeOfConduct.
• Read HelpingWithBugs, Bugs/CommonTasks and Bugs/HowToTriage on UbuntuWiki.

Some basic rules:

• Status, Importance, Responses, Assignment, FindRightPackage, Tags, DebuggingProcedures, SRUs and Backporting
• DebuggingProgramCrash, Backtrace, Valgrind, Strace

Search for the same bug, elsewhere:

• Other distros: Debian, Fedora, Mandriva, OpenSuse
• Upstream: Kernel, Gnome, OpenOffice, Mozilla

Lists:

• Open bugs, Bugs without a package, Bugs that can expire, Private apport crashes

• It is also useful to install Greasemonkey and the Launchpad Greasemonkey script collection (the whole process was described by Brian Murray here, and the scripts can be downloaded here) using the following commands:

1. add deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/gm-dev-launchpad/ppa/ubuntu karmic main to your /etc/apt/sources.list file
2. sudo apt-key adv –keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com –recv-keys 4C3DF1B4
3. sudo aptitude update; sudo aptitude install firefox-lp-improvements
